Tiny Habits in Chicago
Indie-pop trio Tiny Habits brought their Little Bit Farther tour to Chicago, playing their first headlining show in Chicago at Lincoln Hall.
The band, made up of Judah Mayowa, Cinya Khan, and Maya Rae, rose to popularity on TikTok for their acoustic covers filmed in stairwells. But besides aesthetic, what really makes Tiny Habits stand out is their musicality, synchronicity, and genuine love for eachother and the music. All these factors blend together to make a candid and intimate experience, which fans are to take part in at their shows.
The trio, which typically performs acoustic sets the three of them, brought out a full band for this tour, allowing the group to perform their songs as recorded on their respective projects.
They opened the setlist with “one more,” a track off their debut EP “tiny things,” which came out just last year, and continued on with more songs and singles from 2023. For the first cover of the night, Tiny Habits took to their roots performing an acoustic cover of “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish, one of their most popular covers from TikTok.
At the mid point of the night, each member of the trio took to performing their unreleased solo songs. A showcase of the individual talents and perspectives that make up the groups discography. The band also performed brand new songs “Flicker” and “I Don’t Have A Heart.” Both of which have been performed as unreleased until this point in the tour.
One of the biggest highlights of the night was being able to hear Tiny Habit’s cover of “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac live. The initial cover, which has amounted over 4 million views on TikTok and 800k likes, was also released on their debut EP. The fan favorite moment is stripped down to acoustic guitar, and works as a showcase of the group’s vocal blend and strong harmonies. The audience was locked in for the song, not missing a single word- band member Judah was so impressed by the audience he even went on to ask who in the crowd was a musician.
To end the night, the trio as well as the band came back out for an encore performing their first ever single “pennies (voice memo),” a track about comparing yourself to loose change - and closing with title track off the aforementioned EP “tiny thing,” a track about all the small things that make you love someone.
With a warm and fuzzy feeling in Lincoln Hall, unfortunately, the night came to a close. However, fans of Tiny Habits will be able to see them back in Chicago this summer in Grant Park at Lollapalooza and are able to stream their brand new songs on EP “Flicker + I Don’t Have A Heart.”
