The Driver Era in Toronto
In the heart of Toronto, fans of the Driver’s Era gathered and lined up for the sold-out show of their favourite band. Walking into the venue, felt almost electric as fans screamed and excitedly buzzed. Toronto fans showed their dedication to the band, by lining up overnight to score front-row seats to the show.
The evening started with a song from the summer mixtape album, ‘Back to You’. This was the perfect song to draw fans in, and immediately establish a meaningful connection with them. Soon after, the entrancing opening chords of “Get off my phone” blasted through the speakers. This was a concrete example of the bands ability to effortlessly switch between genres. From delivering slow ballads to a rocking song like “Get off my phone”, the audience was in for a treat.
My favourite moment of the entire set was the performance of “On My Own”. As someone who grew up a lover of all things Disney Channel, Ross Lynch’s performance of his solo from ‘Team Beach 2’, covered all things Nostalgia. As Ross’s voice engulfed the venue, people of all ages screamed the lyrics with excitement, as the song held different meanings for each of them.
The band dedicated their love for Toronto by performing ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ a song by another popular Canadian performer; Drake. The crowd, both shocked and pleasantly surprised, sang the words to a Canadian classic. They were appreciative that the band took the time to combine the world of Toronto, to the world of the Driver’s Era.
But, the most beautiful and inspiring moment was the band's connection to the audience. While photographing the show from the pit, I noticed that the band strived to connect with each of their audience members. From eye contact to playful banter on stage, this level of communication showed the band's appreciation for their fans and their enthusiasm for the music.
Overall, this was one of the best shows I have ever seen. The band was able to combine nostalgia, connection, vocals and stage presence. It is must-see for everybody, as you are guaranteed to have a night to remember.
