Renée Rapp in London
Renée’s set started with “Talk Too Much” to get Eventim Apollo rocking and hyping up ready for the show . When Renee bounced out from behind the stage, the smiles from the crowd were contagious and the energy that transformed from Renée to the fans was electric. Pyros were used for the 2nd song, “Poison Poison”, and for another song later in her set. Renée was definitely here!
You could see the bond between Renée and her fans when she read signs out from the crowd. Her cheeky personality allowed the fans to feel comfortable with writing dirty jokes about Renée’s sexuality. You could see that Renée really cherished her time on stage and completely took in the crowd when they sang the lyrics back to her.
Renée pranked the Apollo when she announced that Megan Thee Stallion was going to come out of the wings and rap her part of “It’s Not My Fault”. Renée joked that everyone will have trust issues after this show and that she already had trust issues. Instead of Megan Thee Stallion the next big talent came out, Sekou to rap in “It’s Not My Fault”. Sekou is undoubtedly the next rising star from London, UK, at only 19 years old, he is the 2nd opener for Renée on her European leg of the tour. The teenage star smashed the rap and received the loudest cheers when he left the stage.
During “Tummy Hurts”, Towa Bird joined Renée on stage to play the electric guitar. Towa Bird opened for Renée during the North American leg of Rapp’s tour and was asked to open again during the European leg. Towa is a master on the electric guitar and her stage presence is incredible. You could see the connection that Towa and Renée have as they got up and close to each other and Towa working her magic on the electric guitar. Later in the show, Towa came back to the stage to sing a cover of “Linger” from the Cranberries. Both of the singers’ harmonies intertwined like lovers holding hands.
The finale began but then Renée noticed a fan from the crowd was down and she took care by stopping the song and ensuring people created a pathway for the medics to aid the individual and take them to the ambulance. However, this didn’t affect the performance as Renée restarted the performance with the same energy as earlier. Thick fog covered the floor like a duvet, creating an atmosphere of mystery and excitement. Confetti floated down from the sky as snow. Renée built the scene ready for her lead single, “Snow Angel”. Thanks to Renée starting in musical theatre, her vocals were incredible , showing her talent through her vibrato in the bridge. Reneé thanked her band and thanked her fans for coming to this special night, especially as it was raining outside whilst the fans were queuing.
Performing for the first time in her career at the Eventim Apollo in London, it was a special night for Renée and her many fans. I can’t wait for what Renée announces next as I know it will be great!
