P1Harmony Kills It with First Full-Length Album

Article by Mollie Menuck

K-Pop Group P1Harmony, also known as “piwon” by fans, made a splash with their new comeback dropping their first full-length album, Killin’ It.  The six piece, which debuted in 2020 under FNC entertainment, previously focused on their mini-album trilogies: Harmony and Disharmony until the release of 2024 album, Killin’ It.

The album is spearheaded by maknae (youngest member) Jongseob, who took the lead writing the album along with help from fellow members Intak, Jiung, and collaborators Han and Sooyoon.

“Killin’ It” with the title track under the same name, an up-beat hip-hop/r&b-esc track about confidence. Using popular slang like “rizz” and “slay,” which is super fun to hear in pop music. The song flawlessly combines rap and vocals, writer Jongseob showcasing his skills with fan favorite line “My root came 2005,” referring to the year he was born. As well as group leader Keeho’s vocals shining through on a particularly impressive riff in the bridge of the song.

The rest of Killin’ It takes us through an exciting smattering of genres, all while tying the tracks together by sprinkling in motifs using the same synth and electric guitar from the title track. Track 3, “Everybody Clap,” plays with the nursery rhyme “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” a common device utilized K-Pop songs. The six-piece also knows how slow it down. “Love Story,” an acoustic ballad reminiscent of y2k songs like “So Yesterday” showing off the groups vocals and versatility.

The latter half of the album carries a much darker tone than the first five tracks. Switching up the vibe with “Emergency,” the focus from the guitar shifts to bass-lines. “Let Me Love You” is a particular standout from the album - instead of soaring vocals the boys let their lower voices shine through in the chorus, and the rap verses are some of the strongest off the project. Between this and the combination of bass and synth, the song is reminiscent of a Daft Punk song and had the vibe of a pop-tune like “Wildflower” by Aussie band 5 Seconds of Summer.

The album closes with “I See U,” a bubble-gummy love song that will be perfect to add to your summer playlists.

Piwon truly outdid themselves this comeback and showed they are a group to look out for in the K-Pop scene. They were really able to prove themselves, taking home their first ever Music Bank win.

I am so excited to see what P1Harmony is able to accomplish the rest of this year, in face, you’ll be able to see Piwon on tour all across the states throughout 2024 on their “Utop1a” tour!
