Maggie Rogers on the TODAY Show
Article by Katherine Cardinale
On August 9th, hundreds of Maggie Rogers fans lined up around the TODAY Plaza in Rockefeller center in New York City so that they could watch her perform as part of the Citi Concert Series on the TODAY Show. These shows are entirely complimentary — fans can register in advance for the opportunity to obtain a Fan Pass, which allows recipients to bring themselves and three guests to the live taping. Fans who do not receive Fan Passes are permitted to join the General Admission line on the morning of the event. Check-in for attendees begins as early as 5:15am, and the concerts typically run until 9am.
When I arrived at the main meetup location on the morning of the concert, there were already dozens of fans waiting in the Fan Pass line, some of whom had been camping overnight for front row spots on the plaza. I was able to attend the event as a VIP courtesy of Citibank and received my Citi Fan Pass at 6am. The Citibank VIP hosts led those with Citi Fan Passes onto the plaza shortly after check in, and we were able to stand in a reserved section right in front of the main stage. Maggie and her band walked on to perform a brief soundcheck and they played each of the three songs they were scheduled to perform live one time. After soundcheck concluded, we patiently waited as the TODAY Show began airing their other daily segments.
When it was time for Maggie and her band to hit the stage once again, the TODAY Show staff prepared the stage and counted down the seconds before the live filming began. Maggie was all smiles, and fans cheered her name loudly as she walked back into our line of sight. During the taping, Maggie sang two songs off of her latest record Don’t Forget Me, as well as her hit single, “Love You For A Long Time,” which is one of my personal favorites. Her live performances were accompanied by a short interview conducted by the TODAY show hosts Savannah Guthrie, Sheinelle Jones, and Al Roker. During this section, Maggie talked about the importance of fair ticket pricing and her continued efforts to fight bots and scalpers that have been dominating the presales for many concert tours around the world. At the end of the taping, one lucky fan who had an approaching birthday was given free tickets to Maggie’s next tour and a chance to talk to Maggie herself.
Maggie’s performance on the TODAY Show was nothing short of electric. Her concerts are always full of energy and she brought her all to this appearance, despite the early morning humidity and heat. Maggie is embarking on her very first headline arena tour, The Don’t Forget Me Tour — Part II, this fall — be sure to get your tickets here! You won’t want to miss it.
