Madi Diaz in Ann Arbor

Madi Diaz put on a breathtaking show at Ann Arbor, Michigan’s intimate venue, The Ark, on March 5, 2024. It was impossible not to get lost in Diaz’ soothing vocals and calming stage presence. Definitely a performance those in attendance will never forget, Diaz brought her full power to the small stage.

Kicking it off with her latest album, Weird Faith, “Same Risk” started off the show with the same question as her album, What the fuck do you want?. Taking in each and every word, you truly felt alone in the room with Diaz. In between songs, Diaz took time to acknowledge the closeness of the audience, cracked a few jokes, and shared the inspiration behind her songs. For example, “God Person” was written about a person’s faith, or lack thereof, and the conversations she shared with her father after a vacation the two took together. “Kiss The Wall” was written while Diaz was stuck waiting in traffic, which is ironic with lyrics like I love this place / I love waiting in line / Nothing is a waste of time. We might have to disagree with you there, Madi! We can’t stand traffic.

In the middle of her set, Diaz took a moment to mention Propeller, whom she partnered with her Weird Faith tour. Propeller is a non-profit organization that works to inspire activism and helps build movements for change. With many individuals’ rights at stake and the looming election this year, Diaz encouraged the audience to take out their photos and text WEIRD to 99126. This would prompt those in attendance to sign a petition regarding human rights and inspire everyone to vote this year.

Diaz joked about having “one” song left until she would exit the stage and swiftly return for the anticipated encore. She finished the set with “New Person, Old Place” and her latest album’s title track, “Weird Faith”. The emotions we felt leaving the venue and even into the days after are indescribable. Diaz is an incredible singer/songwriter who, just four years ago, was bartending to make her living. Now touring across the country, Diaz is excitedly sharing her music, jokes, and inspiration with fans.

The Weird Faith tour continues in North America until April 4. This is not a tour you will want to pass up.
