Hannah Bahng in Chicago
Australian based artist Hannah Bahng embarked on her first ever tour, playing eight sold out shows across the US! “The Abysmal Tour Worst Night Of Your Life” hails from the title of her first EP “The Abysmal EP,” which includes seven original tracks written and composed on her own accord.
The young artist has proven herself time and time again, originally blowing up on TikTok and Youtube, she officially released her first two songs just last year. Since then she has founded her own entertainment company Bahng Entertainment, which is responsible for producing and distributing her music, as well as managing her tour. The Chicago stop of “The Abysmal Tour” was initially set to be one night at Beat Kitchen, but after selling out instantaneously, Chicago was treated to a second show in Chicago and a venue upgrade to Wicker Park’s Subterranean. The intimate bar venue has been home to many shows over the years both local and tours! The space created the perfect vibe for Hannah Bahng’s indie style music.
The set opened with “Oleander,” a track off her first single project, “Perfect Blues” that set the mood. Considering her small, yet strong discography, fans were treated to not only hearing every single one of Hannah Bahng’s songs, but unreleased tracks and covers as well. Thus far, at every stop of the tour, each crowd has been treated to a new surprise cover which is teased via her broadcast channel. Chicago was elated to witness her cover of “Too Sweet” by Hozier. A mainstay of the setlist is Bon Jovi’s “Living On A Prayer,” which she dedicates to the parent chaperones. The two unreleased tracks “Ribs” and “What Never Lived” not only show off her chops as a multi-instrumentalist, but her versatility as an artist. While “Ribs” is an acoustic piano ballad, “What Never Lived” is a power rock song driven by electric guitar.
A ritual at Hannah Bahng’s “Abysmal Tour” is a rubix-cube-solving contest, which is taken very seriously both Bahng and fans - the volunteer in Chicago even bringing her own cube. Hannah, on her winning streak did in fact beat the fan but treated her to a signed cube! The last few songs of the setlist consisted of fan favorite “POMAGRANATE” and an encore featuring her debut track “Perfect Blues!"
Hannah Bahng is a force of an artist to watch out for, her song-writing and performance skills are already as strong as a veteran artist and she still continues to get stronger. Blues (her official fandom name) still have a few more chances left to see her in the US! We at Thirteen can’t wait to see what she cooks up next for fans.
