Five Favorites from Vevo’s 2024 DSCVR “Artists to Watch”

Article by Isabel Dowell

For the past ten years, Vevo, the world’s leading music video network, has released their highly anticipated Artists to Watch for the year to come. With alumni like Ethel Cain, Ice Spice, JAWNY, Billie Eilish, Arlo Parks, and so many more, Vevo’s DSCVR Artists to Watch program “is one of the most highly anticipated and competitive lists in the emerging music space, as the artists and bands that make it receive critical exposure and promotion that help propel their careers.”

With over 600 submissions for this year, Vevo has chosen the below list of artists as those who are destined to break through the mainstream of music:

Chappell Roan (Island/UMG)

Elmiene (Polydor, UMG)

Florentina (Good Kid Records & Polydor x Island Records/UMG)

Fridayy (Def Jam Recordings)

HARLEY (Sony Music France, RCA Records)

Jazzy (Polydor, UMG)

Judeline (Interscope Latin)

Khamari (RCA/SME)

Libianca (5K Records/RCA)

LU KALA (AWAL)

Mae Stephens (EMI, UMG)

Nathan Galante (UMLE/UMG)

Olly (Epic Records Italy)

Qing Madi (Columbia/SME)

Sarah Kinsley (Verve/UMG)

ScarLip (Epic/SME)

Strandz (Epic/SME)

Teezo Touchdown (RCA/SME)

The Last Dinner Party (Island Records, UMG)

Thirteen Magazine would like to introduce you to some of our favorites from this list and showcase who should definitely be on your radar for 2024.

Chappell Roan (Island/UMG)

Thirteen Magazine had the pleasure of covering Chappell Roan’s Midwest Princess tour this past October and witnessed exactly what Vevo sees in her. Hailing from a small town in Missouri, Chappell Roan has taken on both a larger-than-life and drag queen-like aesthetic that allows her to fully express her music, personality, and everything in between. Spending a good chunk of her career as an independent singer-songwriter, Roan has already shared the stage with names like Olivia Rodrigo and Fletcher, headlined multiple of her own tours, and is gaining stardom like she was born to do so. A pop princess through and through, Chappell Roan is destined for incredible things.

HARLEY (Sony Music France, RCA Records)

Even though we aren’t fluent in French and can’t lyrically understand HARLEY’s afrobeats and amapiano rhythms, there’s no doubt about the physicality his music evokes. Coming from the Parisian suburbs, HARLEY mixes his Ivorian roots with modern and current French influences. Even though his career in music seems to have taken off only three years ago, HARLEY has created a steady stream of music consisting of bright beats and controlled melodies that has intrigued fans across the globe. With just over 1.7M monthly listeners on Spotify alone, we can guarantee you’ll be one of them in 2024.

Khamari (RCA/SME)

Khamari is an artist brand new to us at Thirteen Magazine but we aren’t shy in saying we were hooked from the very first note. A multifaceted R&B, soul-pop artist from Boston, MA, Khamari is not just a Vevo DSCVR 2024 Artist, but is nominated for a slew of Grammys including Best New Artist, Best Progressive R&B Album, Best R&B Artist, and many more. There is a beautifully somber impression left by his voice that, coupled with his contemporary style of music, detailed production, and truthful accessibility, makes Khamari a name you will be hearing a lot more about in the coming months.

Libianca (5K Records/RCA)

Libianca, the self-titled musical therapist, is a Cameroonian and American singer best known for her single “People” and competing on the American TV show The Voice in 2021. Describing her music as “an intersection of R&B, Afrobeats, [and] soul”, Libianca’s sound has been praised for its honesty, songwriting, and creative direction. Just like Vevo, we are captivated by Libianca’s unique sound, incredible vocals, and the positive impact she’s had on mental health awareness. Her emotionally relatability alone will project Libianca into the hearts of many listeners.

The Last Dinner Party (Island Records, UMG)

The Last Dinner Party is new on our radar, but we were immediately swept away by their influence. Dressed in Marie Antoinette-inspired pieces, The Last Dinner Party is a United Kingdom-based rock band made up of Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Aurora Nishevci. Almost selling out their debut United States tour, packing venues across the United Kingdom, and releasing their debut album in February of 2024, this femme and non-binary supergroup is about to bring a new musical experience to audiences across the globe.

Who are you keeping an eye on in 2024?
