Last night, FINNEAS brought his Crying out Loud Tour to the MGM Music Hall at Fenway in Boston, delivering a performance that was both intimate and electrifying. The evening kicked off with a haunting piano spotlight on “Starfucker,” with the band dramatically entering once FINNEAS exclaimed, “You want to dance Boston?” as they transitioned into “Lotus Eater.”
FINNEAS’s charisma was palpable and the energy in the room was infectious. This was spotlighted when a fan comically held up their own crutch from the pit line when FINNEAS sang, “You could be the crutch that she holds/ Got herself a sprained ankle” during “Cleats.”
After the flirty song “Sweet Cherries,” FINNEAS shared Boston is the biggest sold-out venue the band has performed at so far and it is his favorite city to perform in. He shared stories of his yearly visits to Boston as child to visit his uncle and unlike children who would obsess over toys, FINNEAS was obsessed with Paul Revere. The audience’s enthusiasm was a testament to the city’s adoration for FINNEAS. The singalong during “What’s It Gonna Take to Break Your Heart?” was another favourite where the crowd's voices blended harmoniously with FINNEAS's.
The setlist was a well-curated mix of fan favorites spanning from his singles from 2018 to songs from his 2021 album, “Optimist.” The concert reached its emotional peak with “I Lost a Friend” and “Break My Heart Again,” where FINNEAS candidly admitted that Boston would be tough to beat as the tour continues into August. Another electric moment on stage was during “Till Forever Falls Apart” when band members came front and centre to jam out. The entire show felt like watching a group of friends perform their favorite songs together and it was a full circle moment for FINNEAS to have his favorite band BAD Suns open for him. But it was even more special to have Miles Morris join his crew.
The night concluded with the fan-favorite “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night” and the titular “Crying Out Loud,” during which FINNEAS threw guitar picks into the audience, leaving fans with a tangible memento of an unforgettable night. FINNEAS’s performance at the MGM Music Hall at Fenway was a masterclass in showmanship, emotional connection, and musical excellence.
