Atlanta-born singer-songwriter Faye Webster recently headlined New York City’s world-famous Radio City Music Hall as part of her Underdressed at the Symphony Tour. After fans poured into the venue for the sold-out show dressed in their very best (an ironic move given the tour’s title, which stems from Faye’s most recent album with the same name) and Japanese musician Mei Ehara played a captivating opening set, the lights dimmed except for a projection of minions onto a giant T-shirt prop on the stage. Minions have become a staple in Faye’s brand and have been opening her sets by singing the beginning of “But Not Kiss” since last year. After this brief intro clip ended, Faye and her band walked out onstage and launched into the first song of the evening. Fans all over the venue immediately stood up and began to excitedly sing along.
Faye’s setlist did a fantastic job of featuring a variety of songs in her discography. Throughout the show, she played tracks off her three most recently released albums, and I enjoyed getting to hear newer songs, such as “Thinking About You,” as well as fan favorites, including Atlanta Millionaire Club’s “Right Side of My Neck” and I Know I’m Funny haha’s “A Dream With a Baseball Player.” Faye also played her latest single, “After the First Kiss,” which came out in the fall of last year. Faye’s ability to convey her emotions in front of a live audience is a highlight of her concerts, and I am always impressed by how well she is able to command a crowd of people with just her voice and an instrument.
Faye is usually a woman of few words during her shows, but she took the time to thank the crowd for coming to see her multiple times, as well as introduce her band. After closing out the main set with “Lego Ring,” which features a collaboration with childhood friend and famous rapper Lil Yachty on the studio version, Faye came back onstage with her best friend to perform the short but lovable and quirky song “Feeling Good Today.” Faye’s second encore song was “Kingston,” which is perhaps her most famous song to date. I have seen Faye perform a handful of times over the past couple of years, and the beginning of this song live is always greeted by excited, deafening cheers from the crowd.
Faye always puts on a fantastic show, and she is touring multiple countries through July! If you are a fan, this is definitely your sign to see her this year.
