Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Ally Evenson has taken on a new era of her artistry. Now based in LA, the indie musician has released her first full-length album Blue Super Love and is touring the US to share the music with eager fans. The tour embarked in North Carolina, with Evenson playing a mix of headlining shows and sets supporting similarly LA based singer, Wallice. The Chicago stop of the 2025 tour was the second to last show before closing out in a home-state show in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Chicago show took place at Wicker Park’s famous Subterranean, a cozy bar just underneath the CTA Blue Line. The crowd’s energy was warm, with many fans dressed up according to Wallice’s soft circus aesthetic that ties in perfectly with Ally’s look for the recent release.
The last time Ally Evenson visited Chicago was the end of 2023 when she opened for the Japanese House, the experience was incredibly different. While last time Evenson showed off a stripped down set, playing tracks off her 2023 EP In My Dreams, You Laugh At Me, this tour she was able to show off her electric stage presence, accompanied by her drummer, her electric guitar and synth tracks that show off her teams incredible production.
Ally Evenson graced the stage in her signature crochet hat, which has been a staple of the Blue Super Love aesthetic. She opened her set with the opening of the album “Shitty Heaven,” a melancholy track adorned with synths about the fear of dying in her 20s. The setlist was filled with songs of the album about sex, drugs, being gay, and all around gave old fans and new alike a look into Ally Evenson’s world. A highlight of the set was a classic touch of audience participation, Evenson asking the already engaged crowd to scream with her over the track “You Poor Thing,” a satirical song that asks the subject if they need to be pitied to feel validated.
If you’ve been looking for your new favorite artist, Ally Evenson is one to watch out for. Her alt-rock indie-pop fusion is perfect for fans of Wolf Alice and Dora Jar, while her song-writing chops rival those of MUNA and the Japanese House. Make sure to stream Blue Super Love and take a look and all of the incredible visuals created to pair with the album.
