5 Must See Artists at Governors Ball 2025
Article by Katherine Cardinale
The Governor’s Ball is back and bigger than ever! This June, the festival will be taking place from the 6th to the 8th at Flushing Meadows Corona Park for the third consecutive time and will be celebrating its 15th year anniversary overall. Gov Ball is also known for its star-studded lineups, and this year is no different from previous ones, with artists like Olivia Rodrigo, Hozier, and Mk.gee playing the festival for the first time, and others like Tyler, the Creator, Glass Animals, and Clairo returning to the stage.
This will be my second time attending Gov Ball and my first time attending multiple days of the festival in a single year. Here are five artists that I can’t wait to see in the park this June:
Wasia Project: I first got to see this talented duo open for Laufey in May 2024, and then I attended their headlining tour in the fall. They are an amazing act that deserves so much love and hype, and I am stoked to see them perform on a festival stage. Their song “ur so pretty” was notably featured in the Netflix original series Heartstopper, and they have released a couple of incredible EPs since. Be sure to check out their set on Friday!
The Japanese House: This will be my first time seeing The Japanese House after years and years of trying, and I am so excited. The Japanese House is an indie pop act fronted by Amber Bain, a triple threat who sings as well as plays the guitar and keyboard. In the past, they have opened for artists such as The 1975 and Maggie Rogers, and they will be supporting country star Kelsea Ballerini on her arena tour this spring. They will be playing a set at Gov Ball on Sunday, and it will definitely be a must see!
Wallows: This is another band that I have been meaning to check off of my list of artists to see, and I can’t think of a more fun and exciting way to do so than at a festival. Wallows have released three studio albums and one extended play since 2017 and have quickly established themselves to be one of today’s most popular alternative indie bands. They always bring fantastic, upbeat energy to their shows, and Gov Ball is the perfect festival to watch them perform for the first time.
Raye: She was one of this year’s GRAMMY nominees for Best New Artist, and after watching her performance during the awards ceremony, it was instantly obvious as to why. Raye always showcases phenomenal vocals, and her songwriting abilities are also a force to be reckoned with. I absolutely love and admire her ability to flawlessly blend jazz with other genres, including pop and R&B; her debut album, My 21st Century Blues, is a fresh and unique take on music. Raye will be playing at Gov Ball on Sunday!
Olivia Rodrigo: It feels as though Olivia has been going almost nonstop since the release of her viral hit single “drivers license” back in early 2021, but I am definitely not complaining! I am lucky enough to have been able to see Olivia three times already, but I haven’t seen her headline a festival… yet. Olivia has the rare ability of being able to command a huge crowd with just her stage presence alone, and she is definitely going to be a major highlight of Saturday’s Gov Ball lineup. I can’t wait to shout the lyrics to songs like “bad idea, right?” and “deja vu” in a crowd of tens of thousands of fans.
Gov Ball will be an unforgettable three day weekend filled with incredible live music, tasty food and drink from local vendors, partnerships with popular brands, and so much more. It’s the perfect festival for music lovers all over the world looking to spend some time immersed in everything that Queens, New York has to offer, and should absolutely be a bucket list event for any music festival enjoyer.
Select Gov Ball packages are now sold out, including the newly introduced “Pit Viewing” option and Saturday-only GA, but there are lots of other tickets still available for purchase.
